The AGN II Line Array speaker project
« on: 25 Apr 2024, 12:11 pm »
The AGN II line array speaker will be a 2-way with 6 Radian Audio LM10n planars covering the 200Hz to 20KHz range and 6x12 OB H-Frame servo subs covering 14Hz to 200Hz.

The dspNexus 2x8 DSP system with AKM AK4499EX DAC's will be the DSP crossover and input selection use.

The two 6x12 modular OB H-Frame servo sub cabinets are assembled and ready for painting.  These are Jay's modular cabinet flat packs I assembled.  These have a top plate the same size as the sub module top.  He also makes tops with overhangs.

Drop them off next week for painting.  The last 6-12in servo subs arrive this week.

Next is modifying the original AGN open baffles to increase the length of the driver slot to install the longer LM10n planars.

This is the AGN baffle originally sized for DFA-510 planars.  The Radian Audio LM10n planars are longer, but the same width, so the slot needs to be lengthened to install the new drivers.

Hobbs,
Here is the first version with the original drivers.  The updated version will look very similar.

The 12 modular sub H-Frames that captainhemo made are now painted and ready for servo sub driver installation.

Are those open baffle as those little ones you had?

Similar to the little ones, but have a new planar driver.  These have no planar tweeters like the little ones.

Took a single planar driver style with servo subs to LSAF last year and everyone loved it.  Time to make a big version! :)

The first Servo sub getting installed in the OB modular cabinets.

The OB servo sub modules and the wiring harness are complete.

Time to start stacking and wiring the two 6x12's in their room locations.

If the weather holds the two AGN open baffles go back to the cabinet shop for rework to fit the new planar drivers.

There will be 6 per side as in the original, but the new planars are longer, so more woodwork and repainting are needed.

UPDATE:  The AGN Line Array baffles went back to the cabinet shop and in rework.  Hope to get an update this week.

The Monoliths 6x12 servo sub towers are assembled and wired.

Just got them running with the dspNexus 2x8 system for some testing.

Completed the Audio Weaver updates for the AGN II crossover design for use with the ADSP21569 dspBlok and AK4499EX DAC Filter #5 selection.

Now just need to get the line array baffles back from rework to install the new planar drivers and give it a try.

The first AGN II baffle is cut to accept the new planar drivers.

The second baffle is in work.

Then some cleanup work in the cut areas before returning for driver install and testing.

Wow thats pretty tall... why 6 per side? Because you can! :)

(Wondering how long of a wire it is for the servo amp control, though. Thought they wanted you to keep it really short on that...)

The more sub drivers the lower the distortion for a given SPL.  The planars are low distortion as well.

They are wired in sets of 3 servo drivers to 1 servo amp.  Wires are in the total of 5ft to each driver.  Really depends on the height.  Works for me.

The line array baffles have returned from rework and ready for new holes to be drilled for the new planars.

Then test everything before doing paint touchup on the prototype baffles.

Off topic: FYI
Igor Levinsky has co-founded a speaker company using his Radian planar's
https://audioxpress.com/news/new-audio-brand-consonus-debuts-tide-speaker-system-at-axpona-2024

https://www.consonusaudio.com/

I found the  consonus audio /  tech story / tide design and technology  pdf  very detailed and informative.

Lots of food for thought and I'm always hungry : )

Shawn,
Igor designed the Radian Audio LM10n and LT-3.2 planar drivers I have been using.  Took a single LM10n with 3x12 servo subs to LSAF2023 and was well received by all the listeners.

The Consonus Audio 3-way planar tweeter/midrange and 12in woofer speakers I got to see with Igor at CAF2023 was $70K per pair.

Consonus update for 2024, its now an active  DSP 4-way:  3" + 10" dipole planar, 9.5" cardioid mid-bass filler and 13" omnidirectional sealed sub.
I  agree.   these are completely unrelated designs,

I was simply wanted to point out some of the interesting construction techniques highlighted in the tech pdf .
- Baffle = 1.5" mdf + CLD layer + 0.25" aluminum  backer plate.
- Dynamic driver magnet  support and damping.
- Viscoelastic planar driver suspension mounting .

And you are also correct, at that $$$ I will remain hungry for a long time : )

With some help from a friend have the AGN II Line Array baffles in the listening room.

Now to get the new mounting screw pilot holes drilled.
